simplex complex

The simplex-complex system, basically creates an open-mic in the space allowing all the participants to modify the sound space. The cellphone however is a very personal device, it does not frighten like the microphone and the signal can come from anywhere, so the results are surprising.
feedback ( length: 0m:47s 140K
)
Cellphones have a pretty strong microphone element in them, so by putting in the same room as the speaker which is playing back the sound, we are creating the perfect situation for a feedback loop. Luckily there is a delay because of the network phone system we use so the feedback can be quite interesting and magical. All these sounds were created by someone turning the phone to and away from the speaker.
sink ( length: 0m:18s 68K
)
We set up microphones all over the building, here you can hear sounds from the sink. Which were broadcast into the gallery and over your cellphone.
speech ( length: 1m:17s 240K
)
This person seems to have been prepared for the call from our system and read a sort of speech.
stair ( length: 0m:24s 80K
)
The mics placed in the stairwell made a very booming metallic sound. One person does not realize that the system has called them.
yodel ( length: 0m:49s 156K
)
Taking advantage of the echo caused by the delay of the network phone system, some people make screaming sounds, at the end you can hear someone pouring water into the sink.
yunmee ( length: 2m:58s 512K
)
Unphased by the public nature of the sound played into the space, these two just let their private ramblings and conversation fill the gallery space.
You need to be able to play ogg-vorbis files to listen to these sounds. Ogg-vorbis is not patent encumbered which is better for your health and better for the planet ! :)
